BASIC CLASSES Introduction
to Computers Our most popular class for beginners. You'll
learn the skills you need to get comfortable with your computer and use
the tools it offers you. By the end of this class, you'll be "surfing
the Internet", sharing e-mail with friends and family and using word
processing and spreadsheet applications. For Windows 7/Vista users.
Maximum class size is nine.
Introduction
to Computers II Ready to take the next step or need a
refresher? This class is for you. It builds on the basic skills taught
in "Introduction to Computers" to help you get even more comfortable
with your computer and take better advantage of the tools it offers you.
Learn more about Windows features, working with programs and files,
personalizing your computer and using Internet and e-mail tools. For
Windows 7/Vista users. Prerequisite: Basic computer
skills. INTERMEDIATE CLASSES
E-mail and the Internet Take advantage of the
latest free tools from Microsoft for e-mail and Internet browsing.
Windows Live Mail 2011 helps you manage your e-mail, contacts, and
calendar. New features of Internet Explorer 9 simplify your web surfing
and searching. Make the most of all the Internet offers - news,
information, education and entertainment. Stay in touch with friends and
family around the world. Go beyond the basics, protect your privacy and
keep your computer secure. Prerequisite: Basic computer
and Internet skills.
Using Microsoft Word 2007/2010
Writing a short note, a letter to family or friends, a flier or a book?
Microsoft Word makes it easy and fun. Personalize your documents with
interesting fonts, color, bolding and underlining. Mistakes? Word checks
your spelling and grammar. Advanced features let you change margins,
create tables, lists, and more. Create form letters & use mail merge to
personalize letters and envelopes with names and addresses.
Prerequisite: Basic computer skills, some experience with word
processing & a Flash Drive available from TechAge. Using
Microsoft Excel 2007/2010 Learn to use spreadsheets to
easily create and maintain budgets, monitor investments, track checking
account activity, or create Club Treasurer's reports. Excel helps you
build and edit worksheets using formulas which automatically calculate
your numbers so you'll never have a math error again.
Prerequisite: Basic computer skills & a Flash Drive available
from TechAge.
Introduction to Digital Photography
Get the most from your digital camera. In this "hands-on" class you'll
learn how to use your camera's features and controls and simple
techniques to take better pictures. You'll also learn to transfer photos
to your computer, organize and edit them using free software, e-mail
them to friends and family and upload them to the Internet for sharing
and printing. Prerequisite: Basic computer skills.
Bring your own camera. ADVANCED
CLASSES Digital Photo Editing Pictures too
bright or dark? Color need adjusting? Improve your digital photos using
Photoshop Elements, the most popular photo editing software package.
You'll learn to crop and resize photos, remove blemishes and unwanted
objects, organize your photos and much more. Prerequisite:
Intermediate computer skills and some experience with digital
photography.
Take Control of Windows (Windows Vista and
Windows 7) Go beyond the basics and feel like you're in
charge. Learn about the major features of the operating system; how to
organize files, and find them anywhere on your computer. Customize your
Start Menu, Desktop and Taskbar; install and remove programs; keep your
computer safe and up-to-date; protect your data and back it up.
Prerequisite: Intermediate computer skills.
Enjoy More
of the Web (formerly Cards, Calendars, Crafts & More) Use
your computer for more than e-mail and web searches. Discover free
websites that have useful content, offer creative possibilities and are
fun to use. Expand your web browsing skills while you examine
interesting concepts, diversions, and activities. You'll learn projects
to print at home, gain ideas to share with others, and explore numerous
thought-provoking resources on the web. Prerequisite:
Basic computer skills and the ability to access the internet.

Open Labs
The TechAge Learning Center is open to all adults 45+ from Noon
until
2PM Monday, through Friday (subject to change).
Use our computers to surf the Internet, send e-mail and enhance your
skills with assistance from our excellent coaches. Open to the public!
Ask the Pros!
In addition, on Wednesday's only we offer "Ask the Pros"
sessions where current TechAge students can receive expert help
with any computer issue. Try and stump our experts
with any computer problem. This is very difficult to do.
12PM through 2PM. The Pros share their advice during Fall and
Winter semesters at TechAge.
JCC non-members welcome!
You do not need to be a JCC member to participate in TechAge or
